Should I Rent a Motorbike When I Travel to Rome?

Whether you’re visiting or moving to Rome, there is one thing that must always be done; seeing the sights in all their splendor. Rome is one of the most historic and well-known places throughout the world, so there’s plenty to see and do. However, maybe you’re not a fan of walking long distances and you want to get around faster. If that’s the case, then renting a motorbike is the way to go. But there are a few things you should know first.

Know the Laws

No matter where you go, there are always going to be driving laws. Rome is certainly no different, so before even considering renting a motorbike, make sure to read up on the driving laws of the area. The rules of the road may be different than where you’re from and may get into trouble for something you didn’t even know was wrong. In addition, the driving laws for motorbikes are a bit different compared to that of a car, so keep that in mind.

Safety First

Safety First

As you’re driving your newly acquired scooter, always remember that your safety comes first, especially if this is your first time renting one. Motorbikes can’t protect you from the elements like cars can, so you’ll need to wear protective gear such as gloves, guards, and helmets. In fact, studies have shown that a helmet can prevent fatal accidents. Also, be sure to drive slowly and carefully as that also reduces the risk of an accident occurring.

Return It as Soon as Possible

Once you’ve finished seeing the historic sights Rome has to offer, the first thing you should do is return the motorbike as soon as you can. There’s no need to keep it unless you’re not finished with it. If you have a bit of shopping to do and want to get home quickly, then obviously you’d want to hang on to the motorbike. Furthermore, if you don’t return the rented motorbike, you could get in serious trouble with the dealership. This is something you want to avoid if you’re just visiting as getting in trouble with the authorities could have a severe impact on your trip.
