A weekend ski trip can be tons of fun, but if you’re not prepared, your trip could quickly turn into a nightmare of sorts. There are three main things you need to consider when planning a weekend ski trip. You need to make sure you bring the proper clothing. You have to carry the appropriate gear for skiing or snowboarding. You also have to keep in mind any additional items necessary for your trip.
First, you need to be properly dressed. This may seem obvious, but it’s easy to get caught off guard. Failing to anticipate the cold can create a serious problem. It’s not just about bringing a big jacket. In very cold climates, you have to put on multiple layers of clothing in order to stay warm. The more layers you wear, the more heat gets trapped between them. It’s best to have some kind of thermal layer to start. This will probably be long underwear, and it should fit close to your skin. The next layer should be insulation. At this stage, you can add more and more insulating layers depending on how severe the cold temperatures will be. Lastly, you want a waterproof layer on top of everything. This will usually be a big ski jacket or parka.
You can’t have a very good ski trip without your skiing gear. You have to bring your ski boots, poles, ski bag, ski lock, goggles and, of course, your skis. It can be helpful to create a checklist for both your ski gear and the additional items you’ll want. This way, you can refer to it before you leave and check off items to make sure that you don’t forget anything. If you’re going to a particularly dangerous area, you might also want to bring a helmet to protect your head while you are skiing just in case you fall.
Additional Items to Bring
You can be prepared by taking a first-aid kit as well as a fully charged phone and plenty of water to ensure you don’t get dehydrated. There are also the usual items you would want to bring on any weekend trip. These include beauty and hygiene items like a toothbrush and toothpaste, dental floss, hair products, deodorant and, most importantly, sunscreen and lip balm with SPF 15 or higher. Since the cold increases the chance for illness, it can also be wise to bring over-the-counter medicines such as antacids, antidiarrheal medicine, antihistamines, and others.
If you keep in mind these three things, you will stay safe on your weekend trip. Remember to dress warmly with multiple layers of clothing, bring all the gear you need for skiing and be sure to pack those additional items.
