3 Cities in Utah You Definitely Should Visit

With its picturesque mountains and bustling urban communities, Utah is a jewel among states to visit. There are so many things to see there, whether you’re a film buff or an outdoors enthusiast. While visiting the entire state is worthwhile, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to experience all that Utah has to offer in one trip. That being said, here are three cities in Utah that should be at the top of your list to visit.

Park City

Utah, USA

A popular vacation destination for celebrities, Park City is famous for its ski slopes and the Sundance Film Festival. For those visitors who love winter sports, Park City is home to the Utah Olympic Park, where ski and snowboard events were held in the 2002 Winter Olympics. Visitors to the park can ride on bobsleds or go down an alpine slide among other things. If you’re more into skiing and snowboarding, the Deer Valley Ski Resort is an extremely popular place to go.

If you’re in the city in the month of January and you’re a film buff, the Sundance Film Festival is also held in Park City during that time of year. Who knows? You might even see a celebrity while you’re there.

As a quaint college town just forty-five miles south of Salt Lake City, Provo can be a great place to visit. While nonlocals may not have heard of Provo, there are always great things going on and things to do in this city. The city is home to Brigham Young University, a private university sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The school offers campus tours, concerts, dance performances, and college sporting events available to the public.

Visitors might also be surprised to find out that Provo is home to a unique music scene, with well-known bands like Imagine Dragons and the Neon Trees having roots there. As such, there are often local indie music shows going on downtown at various venues like Velour Live Music Gallery.

Downtown Provo features a number of quirky attractions. The Soap Factory, located at Center Street, allows customers to make their own soap. Visitors can also tour the historic Provo City Library, which was previously Brigham Young Academy and features beautiful, turn-of-the-century architecture. Other popular attractions in downtown Provo include the Heart and Seoul karaoke venue and Comedy Sportz—an improv comedy club.

St. George

St. George, Utah, United States

While northern Utah is famous for its ski slopes, southern Utah is famous for its desert beauty and national parks. There are quite a few national parks within an hour or two of St. George, including Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon. Visitors planning to experience any of these parks should consider making it part of a multi-day side trip. This area is famous for its slot canyons and picturesque, desert hikes. St. George is truly a playground for any outdoor junkie, with all its bike trails, campgrounds, and hiking areas.

However, if camping isn’t really your cup of tea, St. George also has some attractions dedicated to the arts, such as the Tuacahn Amphitheatre. This local, outdoor amphitheater is home to a thriving theatre company that puts on several well-known theatrical productions a year. The amphitheater is also host to musical groups and other fun events. Whatever your preference, you’re sure to find something you love about St. George and its surrounding national parks.

For these reasons and others, these Utah cities stand out from other cities in the Mountain West. With that said, it is these very qualities that make the state such an enticing destination for many. So the next time you find yourself in the great state of Utah, make sure you make these cities part of your trip—you’re sure to have a great time.
